18 - Extended Analysis of the Nacirema

Some of the most respected members of the Nacire m a participate in competing against  each other  in fighting rituals . These  representatives engage in a sort of show in order to prove their  superiority   against the mselves, marking an important event for the other  Nacirema  to attend and gather toward.  These rituals come in many different forms, but most  require  two tribes of Nacirema warrior s using an  instrument  to channel their strengths into a victory for their team.   Some of these rituals also test individual tribesmen for their abilities – perhaps some sort of way to measure the “ worthiness ” of the individual.  The most respected of the ritual warriors gain a strong follo wing from the  Nacirema ,  accumulating wealth and blessings from such endeavors,   with many of them being depicted on  Nacire m a sleeping quarters.     It is still being debated on the reas...

One central point in Mairs'  Disability  is that she wishes for more representation in  the media,  especially  toward inclusion of disabilities as “you may wel l join it . ”  Mairs argues that inclusion of disabilities help  acclimates  those who  are disabled or will be disabled in their lifetimes , as well as helping those in the majority understand the different experiences those with disability endure. She does, however,  lambaste media that misrepresents disability as a defining feature,  as it fails to show disabled persons as, well, people. Such  representations  can send the wrong messages and even damage portrayals in  the disabled in real life as those who are greatly limited in their life experiences, which is shown to be untrue with her  descriptions  of tas ks and traits that show her to be a person who happens to be disabled, rather than a disabled person who has a personality.   ...
