18 - Extended Analysis of the Nacirema

Some of the most respected members of the Nacirema participate in competing against each other in fighting rituals. These representatives engage in a sort of show in order to prove their superiority against themselves, marking an important event for the other Nacirema to attend and gather toward. These rituals come in many different forms, but most require two tribes of Nacirema warriors using an instrument to channel their strengths into a victory for their team. Some of these rituals also test individual tribesmen for their abilities – perhaps some sort of way to measure the “worthiness” of the individual. The most respected of the ritual warriors gain a strong following from the Nacirema, accumulating wealth and blessings from such endeavors, with many of them being depicted on Nacirema sleeping quarters.  

It is still being debated on the reason why the Nacirema are so attached to these rituals and what they get from them. One prominent researcher believes that the rituals are used to determine social and class order between differing Nacirema tribes, with those having the best warriors directly being equated to the most successful tribes. Others believe it has a religious context, the warriors having to fight for their pantheon or other figure of authority, with the losers being subject to punishment for disrespect. A less compelling theory takes the form of some sort of entertainment event, but others have attacked this theory due to the loose ends in which it ties, as many Nacirema have strong negative feelings if their respective tribe loses, indicating some sort of exterior effect from the rituals.

17 - Painter

Poetry, in its truest form, is a combination of words used to paint a series of  emotions in word form. It is not all too different in expressing itself when compared to visual arts.   While such words are only a series of scrawling on a physical plane, we  are able to   transcribe  meaning to them in such a way to project an entire story unto them.  The key feature used to describe such pictures is the use of imagery. Poetry is a lot less restrictive than other forms  of text-based media, as they have the ability of manipulating line spacing and the ability to incorporate rhythm.   All these combinations create the ability to transcribe text into a vivid story, a symphony of feelings and emotions that are  wafted into the reader’s senses. 2 - The Meaning of Patriotism

There are many ways to display patriotism f o r a country, and the idea can be displayed in many ways due to your definition of  helping  your mother country. One such ideal is to have a successful living in your c oun try and contributing  its  economy as much as possible. Another way of showing patriotism is by displaying symbols of your home as much as possi ble to show gratitude of your life and the privileges you gain from your land.   Sarah Vowell’s view of patriotism is one of fulfilling the original ideas of the government, in which one should be openly able to discuss and criti que the American government .
