11 - Moving

In the September of 2018, I was anticipating the new experiences of moving and how it will increase my opportunity. No more will I have to be limited in space by sharing a room with 1 other person, no need to go to a friend’s house to conduct projects in their backyard. I will have some space in order to seek the things I want and to be able to invite my friends to a place I can be proud of.

When we arrived in early October, I realized that something was not right. The house we were supposed to be in was still covered in scaffolding and was unfinished on the inside. Our driver turned to this temporary house that we were supposed to live in for an uncertain amount of time. When we got the keys and opened the abode, we were greeted with a series of mixed emotions. We were greeted with the sight of gray-green carpet and a cramped kitchen. The way to get in was through a two-step staircase that meandered into the cramped living room, further constricted as we left our moving boxes in that area. In a fated twist, I was further constrained in my living conditions, as we only had 2 bedrooms for 3-4 people. This entire house stunk of bad ideas in architecture from decades prior, rather than our new modern house we were expecting.

It was nearly 2 months in which we had to stay in that house. I had learned to make as much with my space as possible in the meantime. When we finally were able to move to the intended house, I thought to myself “behold, the gateway to self-autonomy.”
