11 - Moving

In the September of 2018, I was anticipating the new experiences of moving and how it will inc rease my opportunity. No more will I have to be limited in space  by   shar ing  a room with 1 other person , no need to go to a friend’s house to conduct projects in  their backyard.  I will have some space in order to seek the things I want and to be able to invite my friends to a place I can be proud of.   When we arrived in early October, I realized that something was not right. The house we were supposed to be in was still covered in scaffolding and was unfini shed on the inside. Our driver turned to this temporary house  that we were supposed to live in for an uncertain amount of time. When we got the keys and opened the abode, we were greeted with a series of mixed emotions.  We were greeted with the sight of gray-green carpet and a  cramped kitchen. The way to get in was ...

10 - POV

And just like that,  six months  went by in an attempt to keep pushing on my career choices further and further, as  nights keep on getting longer and longer. The only thing tethering me to a general sense of time and not a limbo from the toils of the internship is the small little snippets that air from th e environment, the dialogues that tell me that  I'm  not the only one who is stuck in a place of uncertainty, that the pieces are not fully settled in on my defin ite future. I usually keep to myself in these dialogues, but the thought of people still feeling a solidarity, not in some form of civic pr ide, but the sympathetic feeling of everyone surviving  together is a feeling that I need to keep working.    Ever since I moved out of the house, holed up in an apartment, it is a completely new e xperience in that I have to realize that there is nothing holding me down burning myself to the core  and acceptin...

9 - Indifference

While The  Stranger explores the application of indifference in the form of  Meursault , it seems like the book is mainly critical of such  types of thinking, as we see how  Meursault  is affected by his world view to the point in which he is in prison. It is apparent  from  the start of the novel  that  Meursault  does not harbor serious feeling toward Maman as he does not remember when she died, being more annoyed at the rays of the sun rather than focusing on  the procession. His relationship with Marie is one-sided as  Meursault  does not have strong feelings about getting married and onl y notes her features while Marie is interested in a marriage between her and  Meursault. He gets into  prison   for killing an  Arab,  but he seems to be more preoccupied with the legal consequences rather than the moral one.   The point in which we see how the larger public views Meursault is seen...

8 - Balanced View

In the  article we read last week, the author mainly promotes a “balance” between the idealistic standards of blinding optimism and heavy pessimism.  While I do believe that such a balance is indeed a standard to strive for, I feel like it is a lot more complicated to achieve than the article suggests.   One thing I want to contest is that some people are automatically “wired” to have an ideal perspective in optimism and pessimism. People do have their own perspectives, but  it is a lot more dynamic than suggested, as people will change their perspectives on a quick basis. One person who is usually optimistic can have a bad day, causing them  to be overly  pessimistic  in viewpoint for that duration of time, while a person who was previously pessimistic may have a change in world view and switch to be  optimistic . I believe that honoring  this balanced view of the world, while a good idea, is hard to strive for as reacting to suc...

7 - Tea Party

During the practice for the essay, I noticed how the Oscar Wilde passage critiqued Victorian society in that matters of quarrel were done o ver tea parties in the form of snide remarks. A main point they use against each other, specifically in how  one of the women made fun of her social status. Wilde most likely ac knowledges this in order to show how class dictated how you were treated in every facet in Victorian society,  despite the fact that  the notion of class was not relevant to the argument  they were having.   I think there are some parallels between the Victorian society that Wilde portrays with our current order of manners in the 21 st  century. While it is not as infl uential today like it was 200 years ago, there can still be discrimination in the societal bracket you take place in. Much of the premium trends, like fashion, are hitched on the idea that the pric e tag directly correlates with...

6 - The AP Student

In the small  period  in class when I was  analyzing  Candide, I  thought  about the qualities that lead to  the qualities of an AP student – what separates the topics between the two English classes, for instance? Personally,  I think  it  is all in the name that  indicates  the performance and manner of the student. What does AP mean, exactly? Easy, it stands for  “ artful  people” in that the students in these classes master the art of knowledge  to a degree of excellence, the students themselves knowing all about the class before the first day.   AP can also stand for “astonishingly persistent ”.  The scholars of this c lass all  can  handle everything that will come against them in pristine quality . Any true AP student  will have the ability to take at least 6 AP classes, due to the persistence described in this definition.   AP  stands for “always p erfect ”. ...
